Nursery's Autumn 2 News

We began Autumn 2 by sharing the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’, which sparked many opportunities for children to take part in activities such as painting, mark-making, cooking and role-play.

The children role-played the tiger and the other characters from the story. They used vocabulary from the story to describe its characters.

To arrange a tea party for the tiger, the children took part in a fun cooking activity, making Rice Krispies cupcakes. Through this experience, the children explored the difference between solids and liquids, noticing how ingredients change when they are mixed and heated. This activity also aligned with our learning objective of observing changes in materials. The children used scientific vocabulary to describe what they could see, feel and taste, and practised essential skills such as turn-taking, listening and following instructions.

The children also had the opportunity to explore basic shapes in Maths, and they learnt mathematical vocabulary to describe them, such as corners and sides. The children were very keen to find shapes in everyday life by recognising those in windows, doors and tables. They also enjoyed guessing games in which they recognised shapes by their properties.

Autumn 2 was full of enthusiasm, and the children enjoyed every activity. Well done, Nursery!
